Why Do You Choose Traditional Chinese medicine
Why do you choose traditional chinese medicine
Focus on holistic treatment and treating both the symptoms and the root causes

-
Traditional Chinese medicine is a medical system with a long history. It has been developed for thousands of years, and its value lies in inheritance and innovation.
-
Traditional Chinese medicine pursues the balance of Yin and Yang, emphasizes prevention and conditioning, and conforms to the laws of nature.
-
Its medical methods focus on holistic treatment and treating both the symptoms and the root causes. It aims to regulate body functions and promote self-repair and restore health through natural and drug therapies. The holistic diagnosis and treatment of traditional Chinese medicine inherits the holistic concept of ancient Chinese medicine, starting from the overall human body, grasping the pathogenesis and finding the root cause of the disease.
-
Traditional Chinese medicine treatment is people-oriented and treats based on syndrome differentiation, which highlights the charm of holistic diagnosis and treatment of traditional Chinese medicine
-
Holistic diagnosis and treatment of traditional Chinese medicine is a practice model guided by the theory of systematic traditional Chinese medicine. It takes efficacy and overall health of people as the highest evaluation criteria. Its core connotation is the holistic view of disease under the framework of TCM system theory, including organic diseases, functional diseases with disordered relationships, mental disorders, and attaches importance to the impact of society and natural environment on health.
-
When treating patients, TCM does not treat the symptoms but the root cause. The advantage of holistic diagnosis and treatment is that it can grasp the deep causes and pathogenesis behind the disease, and conduct non-confrontational ecological conditioning through syndrome differentiation and treatment and treatment of the root cause.

-
Kate Middleton has revealed a holistic practice she featured in her routine during her cancer journey.
-
On July 2, the Princess of Wales, 43, shared the tidbit during a visit to Colchester Hospital to see the center's Wellbeing Garden.
-
Speaking to therapist Amanda Green during a walkabout outside the hospital, Kate said she had tried acupuncture, according to The Telegraph.
-
While speaking to a group of patients about different techniques offered by the hospital's cancer well-being center, the Princess of Wales said, "What seems to be really fantastic is that there is a real personal approach: what helps one person – acupuncture or something – might not help another," according to the outlet.
-
The Mayo Clinic explains that acupuncture is a key aspect of traditional Chinese medicine, in which thin needles are inserted at strategic points across the body. The method is used to treat pain or to boost general wellness, including stress management.
-
The Daily Mail noted it might not be the first time Princess Kate has had acupuncture, either. According to the outlet, the royal had the treatment while pregnant with Prince George, now 11, and suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum, which causes morning sickness.
Why do you choose us
Holistic view is one of the most prominent characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine
We make a holistic diagnosis during the consultation before any treatments
-
Observation, listening, questioning, and pulse diagnosis (physical examination) are terms used in traditional Chinese medicine. They are collectively known as the four diagnostic methods.
-
Observation is to observe the patient's development, complexion, tongue coating, ear, expression, etc.;
-
Listening is to listen to the patient's voice, cough, wheeze, and smell the patient's bad breath, body odor, etc.;
-
Questioning is to ask the patient about the symptoms he feels, the diseases he has suffered in the past, etc.;
-
Pulsation is to feel the pulse and examine the body.( 1. Blood oxygen saturation (SaO2) 2. blood pressure 3. heart rate 4. heart rhythm 5 Physical examination
Tongue diagnosis
-
Diagnosis by observing the tongue is a unique method of disease diagnosis accumulated through long-term practice of traditional Chinese medicine.
-
The tongue body and tongue coating are mainly observed. The tongue body is the muscle part of the tongue, and the tongue coating is the moss-like substance attached to the surface of the tongue. The tongue body can reflect the deficiency and excess of the five internal organs, and the tongue coating can detect the depth of invasion of external pathogens into the human body.
-
Normal people have a light red tongue and a thin white coating.

-
If the tongue body is pale and white, it indicates deficiency and cold; red tongue indicates heat; purple tongue indicates blood stasis; White coating indicates cold syndrome on the surface; yellow coating indicates heat syndrome on the inside; yellow and thick and greasy indicates damp heat or phlegm heat, thin coating indicates mild disease, thick coating indicates severe disease, and the tongue coating changes from thin to thick, indicating that the disease is progressing, and from thick to thin, indicating that the disease is retreating.
-
In clinical practice, the changes in tongue body and tongue coating are usually linked together for comprehensive judgment.
-
According to the experience of traditional Chinese medicine, the tongue image can accurately and timely reflect the physiological and pathological conditions of the body. Skilled use of observation diagnosis can diagnose diseases quickly and accurately, so traditional Chinese medicine says "knowing by observation is called divine".

Ear diagnosis and treatment

-
"The ear is not only an organ of hearing, but also a 'holographic projection area' of human health.
-
In the theoretical system of auricular acupuncture, the auricle is figuratively called the "inverted fetal projection": the earlobe corresponds to the head and face, the concha cavity corresponds to the heart and lungs, the area around the helix foot corresponds to the spleen, stomach and intestines, and the scaphoid and antihelix correspond to the upper limbs and the lower limbs of the trunk respectively.
-
This distribution pattern was systematically proposed by French doctor Paul Nogier in the 1950s and has been included in the standard auricular acupoint atlas by the World Health Organization.
-
Modern medicine has found that the auricle is full of vagus nerves, trigeminal nerve branches and rich blood vessels. Stimulating ear points can work through three mechanisms: nerve reflexes regulate autonomic nerves through the spinal cord thalamic tract, body fluid regulation activates endogenous opioid peptides to relieve pain, and bioelectric effects regulate cell potentials through low resistance characteristics. For example, stimulating the "Shenmen acupoint" can calm the mind and soothe the nerves, and pressing the "sympathetic acupoints" can regulate visceral functions.
-
The twelve meridians are directly or indirectly connected to the ear. Therefore, the ear is the place where the main meridians (various meridians) gather, and the changes in the color and shape of the ear can reflect the internal pathological changes of each meridian.
-
The twelve meridians are connected to the internal organs and viscera respectively. The changes of the twelve meridians are reflected in the ear, which itself reflects the pathological changes of the internal organs and viscera.
-
The ear is the orifice of the kidney. The kidney Qi passes through the ear. When the kidney Qi is full, the ear is sharp, and when the kidney Qi is deficient, tinnitus and deafness occur. The heart governs blood, the lung governs Qi, and the liver governs drainage.

Observation, touch, and electrical measurement are the "triple diagnosis method"
-
Observation: Observe the color and shape of the ear. For example, paleness indicates insufficient Qi and blood, dark red reflects stagnation, and abnormal shapes such as nodules, desquamation, and vascular tortuosity correspond to different diseases. For example, the "heart area" of the ear of patients with coronary heart disease can be seen with dilated capillaries.
-
Talpation: Use cotton swabs or probes to find tenderness sensitive points. The "stomach area" of gastritis patients is obviously tender, and the "cervical area" of patients with cervical spondylosis may have cord-like bulges.
-
Electrical measurement method: Use ear acupuncture to measure resistance. The resistance of the corresponding area of the lesion is usually less than 50kΩ, and the lesion is accurately located.
-
Ear beans, acupuncture, bloodletting... Various therapies for various diseases.
-
Auricular acupuncture is a method of preventing diseases by stimulating the auricular points with needles or ear beans. It has a wide range of treatments, is easy to operate, and is also of certain significance for disease diagnosis.
-
It is suitable for various painful diseases, inflammatory diseases and infectious diseases, functional disorders, allergic and hypersensitive diseases, and endocrine and metabolic disorders.
-
For pain experienced by women during pregnancy, ear diagnosis is a very effective and safe treatment method.

-
Ear points are acupoints distributed on the auricle. They are also called reaction points or stimulation points. When the internal organs or body of the human body are sick, local reactions often occur in certain parts of the auricle, such as tenderness, nodules, discoloration, conductivity, etc. This phenomenon can be used as a reference for diagnosing diseases, or stimulating these reaction points (ear points) to prevent and treat diseases.
-
The ear is closely related to the internal organs and meridians. Each internal organ tissue has a corresponding reaction area (ear point) on the auricle. Stimulating the ear points has a certain regulating effect on the corresponding internal organs. The main methods of stimulating the ear points are: acupuncture, buried needles, bloodletting, ear point pressing, magnetic therapy, massage, etc. When a part of the human body is sick, it will react in certain parts of the auricle. These parts are the stimulation points for ear acupuncture treatment, collectively called ear points.

Blood oxygen saturation (SaO2) measurement
-
Normal oxygen saturation (SpO2) for adults and children is between 95% and 100%.
-
Oxygen saturation below 95% is considered abnormal, and when SpO2 levels drop below 80% to 85%, the brain may be affected. When SpO2 levels are below 67%, cyanosis will appear on the skin or mucous membranes.

Blood oxygen saturation (SaO2) is the percentage of oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO2) in the blood to the total hemoglobin (Hb, hemoglobin) capacity that can be combined, that is, the concentration of blood oxygen in the blood, which is an important physiological parameter of respiratory circulation. Functional oxygen saturation is the ratio of HbO2 concentration to HbO2+Hb concentration, which is different from the percentage of oxygenated hemoglobin.

blood pressure measurement

-
Measuring blood pressure is an important means of monitoring patients' vital signs in clinical practice, which helps to diagnose and evaluate patients' conditions.
-
Blood pressure can reflect whether heart function, blood flow, blood volume, and the elasticity and systolic and diastolic function of blood vessels are normal and coordinated.
-
Abnormally high (hypertension) or low (hypotension) blood pressure may indicate potential health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, etc.
-
Hypertension is considered to be the main risk factor for cardiovascular disease worldwide. Long-term hypertension can damage the blood vessel walls and even cause serious harm.
-
Therefore, regular monitoring of blood pressure is essential for human health. In addition, blood pressure measurement can also be used to evaluate clinical treatment and rehabilitation effects.
Heart rhythm and rate monitoring
-
Monitoring heart rate is meaningful. The number of times the human heart beats per minute is called heart rate, which can directly reflect the health of the human body.
-
Because many heart diseases have no symptoms in the early stages, the human body generally cannot detect them. When the symptoms become obvious, they may suddenly develop or even die suddenly.
-
Therefore, if you perform daily heart rate testing, through continuous heart rate testing and analysis, you can quickly detect certain abnormalities in the body and further avoid the occurrence of many diseases.

-
Arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat. Normally, the sinoatrial node in the right atrium of the heart acts as a natural pacemaker.
-
It generates electrical impulses that stimulate the muscles of the atria to contract and pump blood into the ventricles. A slight delay allows the ventricles to fill with blood first before contracting and pumping blood to the lungs and the rest of the body. Arrhythmia occurs when the electrical impulses are not coordinated.
-
This can cause the heart to beat too fast, too slow, or irregularly. Some people experience a fluttering or racing heartbeat. This is usually harmless. Others experience more severe symptoms that can be life-threatening.
Physical examination-Palpation of the twelve meridians
-
Palpation of the twelve meridians in traditional Chinese medicine is an ancient and unique diagnostic method.
-
The doctor touches the patient's body surface with his fingers to sense the abnormal reactions of the meridians and acupoints, thereby determining the location of the disease.
-
This method is simple, easy, accurate and practical, and is one of the indispensable diagnostic methods in acupuncture clinical practice.

-
The palpation results can not only help with diagnosis, but also guide treatment.
-
For example, if tenderness is found at the Feishu point, it may indicate inflammation or infection in the lungs. At this time, in addition to treatment for the lungs, acupuncture or massage can also be performed at the Feishu point to promote the circulation of Qi and blood and accelerate recovery.
-
This treatment method of "taking pain as acupoint" embodies the concept of "preventing disease before it occurs" in traditional Chinese medicine.
-
It is worth noting that TCM palpation does not exist in isolation, but is closely related to modern medicine. Studies have shown that meridians in the human body may correspond to specific nerve and blood vessel distribution areas.
-
For example, the route of the lung meridian coincides with the distribution of nerve segments beside the thoracic spine.
-
This provides a modern medical explanation for TCM palpation and also provides new ideas for the integration of Chinese and Western medicine.

-
In general, palpation of the twelve meridians in traditional Chinese medicine is an ancient and wise diagnostic method, which embodies the core concepts of "holistic concept" and "treatment based on syndrome differentiation" in traditional Chinese medicine. In modern medical practice, we should cherish and develop this precious cultural heritage, and through scientific research and clinical practice, continuously explore its potential value and make greater contributions to human health.

Menopause is not a disease
-
Menopause is not a disease, but a natural physiological process that marks the gradual decline of female reproductive function.
-
It is a transitional stage in the female life cycle, just like puberty. Although menopause itself is not a disease, it may be accompanied by some physical and psychological discomfort symptoms, such as hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, etc.

The naturalness of menopause:
-
Menopause is the stage when female ovarian function declines and no longer ovulates and secretes female hormones.
-
This is a natural process, just like puberty, which every woman will experience.
-
Most women can go through menopause smoothly, but some women will experience more obvious discomfort symptoms.
The impact of menopausal symptoms:
-
Menopausal syndrome is a syndrome characterized by autonomic nervous system dysfunction that occurs in women before and after menopause due to ovarian dysfunction.
-
The main clinical manifestations are hot flashes, sweating, irritability, palpitations, insomnia, headache, dry mouth, dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia, suspicion, fatigue, joint pain, etc.
-
It not only affects women's quality of life, but is also a high-risk stage for obesity, osteoporosis, coronary heart disease, Alzheimer's disease and other diseases.

Principles and effects of acupuncture treatment for menopause:
-
Balance yin and yang, dredge qi and blood:
-
Acupuncture regulates the flow of qi and blood in the human body and balances yin and yang by stimulating specific acupoints, thereby achieving the purpose of alleviating menopausal symptoms.
-
-
Regulate endocrine:
-
Modern research shows that acupuncture can affect women's endocrine system and regulate hormone levels, thereby alleviating symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats.
-
-
Improve the function of the autonomic nervous system:
-
Acupuncture can regulate the autonomic nervous system, help the body adapt to the changes brought about by menopause, and improve the patient's tolerance to symptoms.
-
-
Treat according to syndrome differentiation:
-
The advantage of acupuncture in treating menopausal syndrome is that it can "treat according to syndrome differentiation" according to the specific situation of each person and select the most appropriate acupoints for treatment.
-
Pain managment
-
In the UK, one of the most common clinical diseases is various pains, such as muscle pain, joint pain, neuralgia, visceral pain, etc., ranging from headaches, neck and shoulder pain, shoulder and back pain, back pain, lumbar pain, hip pain, buttocks pain, knee pain, calf pain, ankle pain, and plantar pain; abdominal pain, chest pain, dysmenorrhea, etc.
-
but due to the lack of timely treatment for the cause, a simple problem has evolved into a complex problem involving the whole body, thus affecting daily life and work, and even losing hope for life.

-
Pain is the body's alarm, just like a fire alarm,
-
But in actual clinical cases, many people choose to ignore the alarm of the body alarm,
-
Or take different levels of painkillers,
-
Which is equivalent to turning off the fire alarm instead of putting out the fire.
-
The human body is very precise, and the precise coordination of various parts can enable us to engage in various activities normally.
-
If there is a problem with one part, the body will strive to achieve another balance. In this way, over time, local problems become whole-body problems.
-
Problems on the left side of the body lead to corresponding problems, problems in the upper limbs lead to problems in the lower limbs, and problems in the body structure lead to problems in the organs.
-
For example, if you go to the doctor with plantar pain, after clinical history analysis and physical examination, it is found that plantar pain is the result of muscle and fascia tension and abnormal body structure, rather than just a simple plantar pain.

-
In our clinic, there are a large number of patients with pain.
-
Some have acute attacks for a few days,
-
Some have chronic pain for decades, and the longest case is 60 years;
-
Some come to see a doctor with crutches or need the support of their family members,
-
And some have undergone surgery, such as replacing the knee or humeral head, or fusing the lumbar cone, but the pain still exists;
-
Some start taking medicine to stop menstruation in their teens because of dysmenorrhea, Which affects their development and even affects their fertility in adulthood;
-
Some people take painkillers for abdominal pain and injure their internal organs, etc.
-
-
But after acupuncture treatment, the patient is surprised that the pain disappears after suffering from pain.
-
Patients were entering the clinic with crutches, walking out of the door without crutches with big smile after treatment
-
It is a life-changing experience for patients. please read the google reviews, you will understand more about them.( www.drmarymgm.com)

Research: Excessive stress can make people ugly
-
According to the British Daily Mail on October 26, the study found that great stress can cause people's facial health to be poor, making people uglier. If people face less stress, they will appear more attractive to the opposite sex.
-
The research results come from British behavioral biologist Dr. Fhionna Moore. In his research, he revealed that mental stress can affect people's appearance.
-
What causes people to look ugly is a hormone called anxiety hormone cortisol, which increases the glucose content in people's bodies and inhibits the growth of people's muscles and bones.
-
Over time, people's health levels will decline, and therefore, they will become "uglier."

-
Dr. Fhionna Moore pointed out that the anxiety hormone cortisol is a very interesting hormone.
-
If people are in a state of relaxation for a long time, its content will also decrease.
-
If its content has been rising for a long time, such as when people are under too much stress, it will affect people's health.
-
Dr. Moore has done a series of studies on this. In one of the studies, she sampled the cortisol in the participants' saliva and found that people with too high cortisol levels in their saliva had average looks and average attractiveness.
-
The opposite is true for people with low cortisol levels.
-
According to her, cortisol affects the immune system and stimulates gluconeogenesis (the building blocks of glucose) in the liver through amino acids, lactic acid, glycerol, and propionate.
-
In addition, it inhibits insulin from transporting glucose into cells, which means it damages blood vessels.
-
Cortisol also inhibits the uptake of amino acids into muscle cells, which can have a negative impact on muscle growth.
Acupuncture provides a new solution for people who pursue natural beauty

-
Acupuncture can improve the face, facial features, skin, and demeanor of the human body by regulating the body's qi, blood, and body fluids, so that the body can reach a better state.
-
In the diverse world of beauty and skin care, acupuncture skin care stands out for its unique traditional wisdom and remarkable results. Combining traditional Chinese medicine meridian theory with modern science, acupuncture not only improves skin appearance, but also adjusts the body's internal balance, providing a new solution for people who pursue natural beauty.
-
After a period of treatment, a patient who visited our clinic told me with surprise: "My husband, children, and friends all said that I have become much more beautiful and energetic, and I also feel much younger."
The connection between meridian theory and face
-
The meridian theory is one of the core components of traditional Chinese medicine. It believes that there is a complex network system inside the human body.
-
Through these channels, Qi and blood can circulate throughout the body to maintain the normal function of the body. As an important part of the human body, the face is also affected by the meridians.
-
The stomach meridian is directly related to the face, and its smoothness directly affects the condition of the skin. When the stomach meridian runs smoothly, it can effectively transport nutrients to the face, promote cell metabolism, and improve skin color; otherwise, it may cause problems such as dull complexion and acne.
-
By regulating the relevant meridians through acupuncture, the condition of the facial skin can be effectively improved to achieve a beauty effect.

The influence of Qi and blood theory on skin
-
The theory of Qi and blood is another important foundation of TCM beauty. Qi has the functions of promoting, warming, and defending, while blood is responsible for nourishing the tissues and organs of the whole body.
-
A good state of Qi and blood is essential for maintaining healthy skin. Sufficient Qi can promote blood circulation, ensuring that nutrients and oxygen in the blood are fully transported to skin cells, making them full of vitality; healthy blood contains rich nutrients, such as antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, which help resist free radical damage and delay the aging process.
Yin-Yang balance and skin health
-
Yin-Yang balance is one of the core concepts in traditional Chinese medicine theory, which emphasizes the unity of opposites within things.
-
In skin care, the imbalance of Yin-Yang often manifests as skin problems. For example, Yin deficiency and hyperactivity of fire can cause dry skin, itching and even acne; Yang deficiency may cause symptoms such as pale complexion and chills.
-
Acupuncture treatment aims to restore the balance of Yin-Yang in the body. Through selective stimulation of different acupoints, the corresponding organs are adjusted to work in a coordinated manner. This can not only relieve skin discomfort caused by Yin-Yang imbalance, but also fundamentally improve the overall health level of the body, thereby showing a healthy skin glow.

Stress/Anxiety/Depression

Depression has become increasingly prevalent in modern society, with the World Health Organisation predicting that by 2020 depression will be second only to chronic heart disease as a major health problem worldwide. About two thirds of adults will at some time experience depression severe enough to interfere with their normal activities (Mintel/YouGov, 2006). Women are twice as likely to experience depression at times of hormonal changes, such as pre-menstrually, pregnancy, after childbirth and menopause. Almost everyone has experiences low mood at some point in their lives. However, when life circumstances become overwhelming, transient feelings of not being able to cope or anxiety can get out of hand, leading to full blown clinical depression. In addition, chronic health problems such as long-term pain can trigger depression.
-
Chinese Medicine is a comprehensive holistic system used for hundreds of years to affect mood. Acupuncture can effectively influence the complex interaction between our emotions and the body chemistry, hence promoting emotional and physical well-being.
-
Studies indicate that acupuncture has an a positive effect on depression by regulating the brain’s mood chemistry, increasing the levels of “feel-good” hormones called endorphins and serotonin. Research has shown that some acupuncture points affect parts of the brain that are known to reduce sensitivity to pain and stress, as well as down-regulating the ‘analytical brain’ which is involved in anxiety and worry, thus promoting the relaxation response.
-
A recent systematic reviews, found that acupuncture is similar in effectiveness to anti-depressant medication and should be recommended for patients with depression (Zhang, 2010)

Headache

-
There are over 150 types of headaches in western books, and most of the patients will take pain killer, but if you would choose a pain killer free treatment, acupuncture and Chinese medicine will be the best choice.
-
Acupuncture treatments depend on the meridians to gain the accurate diagnose with location and cause of the disease, normally receive good results, that is the reason why more and more western people choose acupuncture treatment instead of taking pain killer.
-
Headaches are classified into the
-
forehead
-
temporal parts( Migraine )
-
top of the head
-
back occiput, etc.
-
according to the location of the pain.

-
Many patients with neck and shoulder pain have not yet reached the scope of cervical spondylosis, many are diagnosed with neck and shoulder syndrome, and even cervical and lumbar syndrome.

Neck/Shoulder/Back/joint/Lumbar/Limb pain
-
Common causes of neck, shoulder and back pain
1. Incorrect posture. Long-term semi-lying position to watch mobile phones, long-term desk work, or mild hunchback, in the "head down and chest" style, are all likely to induce neck, shoulder and back pain, which is also the most common cause for young and middle-aged patients.
2. Overuse, long-term lifting or carrying heavy objects, etc. cause muscle strain
3. Trauma leads to sprain of neck, shoulder and back muscles. Generally, there is a clear history of trauma, such as sports injuries, car accidents, strains, sprains, etc.
4. Degenerative changes in the cervical and thoracic spine. Including disc herniation, curvature straightening, spinal arthritis, rib arthritis, etc. Common in middle-aged and elderly people.
5. Others: fibromyalgia, spinal stiffness, heart, liver and lung diseases, etc., especially the elderly should be alert to myocardial infarction, aortic aneurysm rupture, pulmonary embolism and other critical diseases.

Treatment of neck, shoulder and back pain
1. First of all, the most important thing is to change your living habits, including: correct your sitting and standing posture, avoid bowing your head and hunching your chest; avoid sitting for a long time, and get up and stretch every hour to help relieve neck, shoulder and back muscle tension; avoid lifting/carrying heavy objects; participate in more exercise to increase muscle strength.
2. Rest. Mainly for patients with long-term load labor.
3. Cold compress. Especially within 72 hours after trauma.
4. Acupuncture, massage, and physical therapy. It can effectively relieve muscle tension and reduce pain, mainly for patients with chronic pain, but patients with trauma should avoid it.
5. Rehabilitation exercises, mainly for stretching and strength training of neck and shoulder muscles, are an indispensable part of neck, shoulder and back pain
-
Low back and leg pain refers to common symptoms in the spinal cord surgery clinic. Low back pain mainly includes strain pain (soft tissue pain), disc pain, and rheumatic diseases. Leg pain mainly includes lumbar disc herniation, arthritis, vascular disease, and rheumatic diseases.
-
The main symptoms include back pain, limited movement, inability to lie for long periods of time or intermittent claudication, as well as soreness, numbness, weakness, cold sweats and chills in the injured limbs.
Fatigue or weather changes can exacerbate the condition and cause a variety of concomitant symptoms, leading to limited movement or functional impairment of the affected limbs.

-
Piriformis syndrome occurs when the piriformis muscle (a flat buttock muscle located near the hipbone) presses on the sciatic nerve, causing buttock pain and occasionally sciatica.
-
Symptoms of piriformis syndrome
-
It begins as chronic, lingering pain, tingling, or numbness in the buttocks that gradually spreads down the back of the thigh and calf and sometimes into the foot.
-
The pain is made worse when the piriformis muscle presses on the sciatic nerve, such as when sitting on the toilet, in a car seat, on a narrow bicycle seat, or while running.
-
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
-
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common functional gastrointestinal diseases. Since there is still no complete cure for IBS so far, symptomatic treatment is often adopted. Treatment of IBS by Chinese medicine has attracted wide attention because of better efficacy and less side effects.

-
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine help decrease symptoms of IBS by facilitating and enhancing the functions of digestive organs, regulating bowel habits, assisting in release of hormones and neurotransmitters, reducing abdominal pain and bloating and stabilizing stress and anxiety that can contribute to IBS.
Insomnia
-
Sleep is a rhythm. Even if there are many external stimuli, you have a regulating rhythm for your body. If you can regulate it and make it produce a benign rhythm, you will succeed.
-
So what is the rhythm? Rhythm is a rhythm in your body that is mainly sympathetic or parasympathetic.
-
When sympathetic excited, the body is tense, then the heartbeat speeds up, the heart rate blood vessels contract, and the pores open.

-
When parasympathetic is excited, you will enter quietness, your heart rate will slow down, your pores will also close, and people will enter a quiet state and rest. It is a sympathetic excitement and a parasympathetic excitement alternately.
-
Our idea of acupuncture treatment of sleep problems is to excite the parasympathetic nerves and inhibit the sympathetic nerves
Flu and Cold
Western Medicine
-
Colds can be divided into two types: common cold and influenza.
-
Common colds are commonly known as colds and upper respiratory tract infections.
-
They are caused by inflammation of the upper respiratory tract mucosa caused by common bacteria (such as streptococci) or common viruses (such as rhinoviruses).
-
Common colds are one of the most common diseases and can occur all year round regardless of gender, age or age. Common colds have mild symptoms, a short course of illness, low infectiousness, low immunity after illness, and can cause repeated colds. Cold, fatigue, malnutrition, old age, poor mood, etc. can all be causes of colds.

-
Common colds are mostly acute, with dry throat, sore throat or itchy and burning throat at the beginning, followed by nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing and coughing. At the same time, there may be a fever, with a body temperature below 38.5 degrees, headache, dizziness, fatigue, general discomfort, joint pain, etc., which can generally be cured in 1 to 2 days.
-
Influenza is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by influenza virus. The pathogens are influenza virus types A, B, and C, which are transmitted through droplets. The disease is highly contagious and has the characteristics of "mutation". New subtypes are constantly produced and susceptible people are widespread, causing an outbreak.
-
Influenza has an acute onset and varies in severity. There may be a sudden onset of high fever, severe systemic symptoms but not severe respiratory symptoms, manifested as chills, fever, headache, fatigue, body aches, etc.
-
Upper respiratory tract symptoms may include nasal congestion, runny nose, dry cough, sore throat, etc. Influenza patients with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea (gastrointestinal type) can also be seen. Physical examination patients show acute illness, flushed cheeks, mild congestion of the conjunctiva and tenderness of the eyeballs, congestion of the pharynx, herpes on the oral mucosa, fever symptoms can last for 3 to 5 days, body temperature can be as high as 40℃, lung auscultation only has rough breath sounds, and occasional pleural friction sounds.

Chinese Medicine:
-
Cold or flu refers to an exogenous disease caused by wind evil invading the human body, causing lung defense disorder, and the main clinical manifestations are headache, nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, aversion to cold, fever, and general discomfort.
-
It is often accompanied by the unhealthy Qi of the four seasons (such as cold, dampness, dryness, and summer heat evil), and the clinical manifestations are different, such as wind-cold, wind-heat, summer dampness, and wind-dryness. In addition, the young, the old, and the lack of positive Qi make it easy for the external evil to enter the body, causing a serious condition or other diseases.
-
"Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases" is a medical monograph written by Zhang Zhongjing, a famous ancient Chinese medical scientist.
-
The book is divided into 50 chapters, which include treatment plans and prescriptions for various diseases such as seasonal, epidemic, and acute diseases that are common among the people, and puts forward the theory of febrile diseases, which has made a great contribution to the development of traditional Chinese medicine.

-
The book was written around 200 to 210 AD. After the original book was lost, it was collected and collated by Wang Shuhe and others, and divided into two parts, "Treatise on Febrile Diseases" and "Synopsis of the Golden Chamber ".
-
"Treatise on Febrile Diseases" has a total of 10 volumes, which specifically discusses acute infectious diseases such as typhoid fever.
-
In clinical treatment, different treatments can be selected according to different situations, such as cupping, fingertip acupuncture, acupuncture, moxibustion, traditional Chinese medicine, etc., all of which have good therapeutic effects.

Hypertension
-
Hypertension is one of the common diseases in internal medicine. The blood pressure judgment criteria recommended by the World Health Organization:
-
① Normal blood pressure, systolic pressure <120mmHg and diastolic pressure <80mmHg.
-
② Adult hypertension, systolic pressure ≥140mmHg and (or) diastolic pressure ≥90mmHg.
-
③ Critical hypertension refers to blood pressure between the above two.
-

-
Hypertensive patients have persistently increased arterial pressure, which causes systemic arteriosclerosis, thereby affecting the blood supply of tissues and organs, causing various serious complications, among which damage to the heart, brain, and kidneys is the most significant.

-
Advantages of Chinese medicine treatment of hypertension:
-
① Improve symptoms and control blood pressure;
-
② Improve the physical condition of hypertensive patients, prevent complications, and control the development of the disease.
-
Traditional Chinese medicine:
-
Traditional Chinese medicine does not have the concept of blood pressure, so there is no name for hypertension. Therefore, the definition of hypertension in Western medicine is adopted, that is, it is a clinical syndrome characterized by increased systemic arterial pressure.
-
However, according to the clinical manifestations of hypertensive patients, such as dizziness and headache, hypertension belongs to the category of "dizziness" and "headache" in traditional Chinese medicine.
-
Doctors of all dynasties believed that its occurrence was mostly caused by liver wind, phlegm fire, blood stasis, yin deficiency, etc. Its basic pathogenesis is the imbalance of Qi, blood, Yin and Yang, and wind, fire, phlegm, and blood stasis are the problems.

-
At present, there have been many large-scale epidemiological surveys and studies on hypertension syndromes, and it has been found that the common syndromes of hypertension are mainly liver Yang hyperactivity, Yin deficiency and Yang hyperactivity, liver and kidney Yin deficiency, liver wind disturbance, phlegm turbidity obstruction, blood stasis blocking the collaterals, etc.
Prevention of hypertension by TCM
-
TCM has had the idea of "preventing illness before it occurs" since ancient times, and has made great progress in recent years.
-
It is mainly reflected in two aspects: one is prevention before illness occurs, and the other is prevention of changes after illness occurs. For the prevention of hypertension, it is necessary to prevent the development of pre-hypertension into hypertension and to prevent target organ damage caused by hypertension.

-
For pre-hypertension, early interventions such as lifestyle intervention and Chinese medicine treatment can be given to minimize the occurrence of hypertension.
-
The prevention and treatment of hypertension focuses on preventing target organ damage. For example, long-term oral administration of Chinese medicine for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis can reduce blood viscosity, improve blood rheology, and reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications.
-
TCM is not as fast and effective as Western medicine in lowering blood pressure values, achieving rapid targets, and rescuing hypertension emergencies, but the holistic thinking mode of TCM and the individualized treatment plan of syndrome differentiation and treatment have clinical value that cannot be ignored for the long-term treatment of hypertension.
-
For patients with pre-hypertension or mild symptoms, lifestyle intervention and Chinese medicine treatment can be given first.
-
If blood pressure is still not well controlled, Western medicine can be added.
-
If Western medicine has been used and the effect is not good, Chinese medicine can be added. After blood pressure is satisfactorily controlled, the dosage of Western medicine can be gradually reduced.
Bell’s palsy
Bell’s palsy, a.k .a. facial palsy, is named after Sir Charles Bell, a 19th-century Scottish surgeon who was the first to describe the condition. Bell’s palsy is a form of temporary facial paralysis resulting from damage or trauma to one of the two facial nerves. It is the most common cause of facial paralysis worldwide and one of the most common neurological disorders involving a cranial nerve.
Peripheral facial nerve paralysis:
-
It is caused by lower motor neuron damage, and the lesion is in the facial nerve nucleus or the peripheral nerve below the nucleus.
-
The clinical manifestations are: paralysis of the upper and lower facial muscles on the same side, that is, the forehead wrinkles on the affected side become shallow or disappear, unable to frown, the palpebral fissure becomes larger, and the eyelids are unable to close.
-
When the eyes are closed forcefully, the eyeballs rotate upward and outward, exposing the white sclera, which is called Bell phenomenon.
-
The nasolabial groove on the affected side becomes shallow, the corners of the mouth droop, the cheeks leak air, and it is impossible to whistle. When eating, food is stored between the cheek and the gums

Central facial nerve paralysis
Central facial nerve paralysis clinically manifests only as paralysis of the lower facial muscles on the opposite side of the lesion, that is, the nasolabial groove becomes shallower and the corner of the mouth slightly droops, while the upper facial muscles (frontalis muscle, orbicularis oculi muscle) are not affected. It is common in cerebrovascular disease.

-
In the case of peripheral facial nerve paralysis, the clinical manifestations of the lesions inside and outside the facial nerve canal are different, and the clinical prognosis is also different. The location of extracranial lesions is from high to low
-
① Lesions above the geniculate ganglion: When the greater petrosal nerve is affected, there may be tear gland secretion disorders, dry eyes, and conjunctivitis.
-
②Generate ganglion: manifested as taste disorders + hyperacusis, mastoid pain, often accompanied by decreased sensation or pain in the external auditory canal and herpes, which is Hunt syndrome, a herpes virus infection.
-
③ Lesions within the stylomastoid foramen to the entire facial nerve canal:
-
(a) Stapedius branch and above: taste disorders + hyperacusis.
-
(b) Chorda tympani branch and above: may be accompanied by sensory disorders of the anterior 2/3 of the tongue, accompanied by decreased saliva secretion.
-
(c) Below the chorda tympani branch: typical symptoms of peripheral facial nerve paralysis, no taste, hearing, tear gland secretion abnormalities, etc.
-
-
④ Damage to the stylomastoid foramen and the nerve trunk outside it (the mastoid process is where the facial nerve exits): typical symptoms of peripheral facial nerve paralysis, but no other symptoms (abnormal taste, hearing, and lacrimal gland secretion).
-
-
In general, the lower the location of facial nerve damage, the better the treatment effect.

Western medicine treatments:
-
Western medicine treatments are mostly hormone injections, antiviral, improving microcirculation and nerve nutrition, etc., which have certain effects,
-
but the effect is not good for some patients, especially those with grade 3 to 5 injuries, who are most likely to have sequelae, including contracture, spasm and facial expression muscle atrophy.
-
If not handled properly, it may even exist permanently.
Chinese medicine
-
Chinese medicine also calls it "mouth pain".
-
The cause and pathogenesis are the deficiency of the body and the excess of the symptoms. The deficiency of the body is the lack of positive energy, and the excess of the symptoms is the invasion of wind evil. The wind evil blocks the facial meridians, and the flow of qi and blood is blocked, which leads to the relaxation of facial muscles.
-
Through acupuncture, Qi and blood can be harmonized, and the meridians can be dredged, so that the local Qi and blood circulation and nerve function of the body can be improved.
-
In contrast, acupuncture regulates the Qi to promote the recovery of the body's own Qi, blood, Yin and Yang, and viscera functions.
-
It has significant effects and is not easy to leave sequelae. It has significant advantages in clinical practice.

2. Deficiency of both qi and yin (mid-diabetes): manifested as fatigue, shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating, aggravated by movement, dry mouth and tongue, polydipsia and polyuria, diarrhoea in the early morning, constipation, sore waist and knees, pale tongue or tongue Red and dark, with tooth marks on the tongue, thin and white coating with little fluid, or with little coating, and weak pulse. It can be treated by replenishing qi and nourishing Yin.

3. Deficiency of both yin and yang (for those with longer course of diabetes): manifested as fatigue and spontaneous sweating, cold limbs, sore waist and knees, dry ears, polydipsia, or swelling and oliguria, or diarrhoea, impotence and premature ejaculation , The tongue is pale and the fur is white, and the pulse is thin and weak. It can be treated by warming yang and nourishing yin.
Yin deficiency is a common feature of the three types, which runs through the whole process of diabetes, and is considered to be the internal factor of the onset and the root of diabetes. The deficiency of both qi and yin is the transitional period of diabetes, which is the basic type of diabetes. Therefore, in traditional Chinese medicine, herbs that nourish qi and nourish yin are often used to improve clinical symptoms and lower blood sugar.
Essential tremor ( ET)
-
Essential tremor ( ET) is a nervous system (neurological) disorder that causes involuntary and rhythmic shaking.
-
It can affect almost any part of your body, but the trembling occurs most often in your hands — especially when you do simple tasks, such as drinking from a glass or tying shoelaces.
-
Some people notice that their tremors improve slightly and temporally 2-4 hours after they drink alcohol
-
ET can happen at any age, but it most often appears during adolescence or in middle age (between ages 40 and 50).
-
A longstanding clinical literature points to an association between essential tremor (ET) and Parkinson's disease (PD); indeed, anecdotally and in small retrospective series, it has been shown that ET patients may eventually develop PD,1–6 and in a prospective follow-up study, the risk of incident PD was approximately

-
Acupuncture, combined with other TCM modalities such as moxibustion and herbs, is a good method for reducing hand tremors and other symptoms of essential tremor, as it has been demonstrated to have positive effects on the generation of cells in the brain and nervous system, as well as reducing stress and anxiety.
Diabetes

Diabetes is a number of diseases that involve problems with the hormone insulin. Normally, the pancreas (an organ behind the stomach) releases insulin to help your body store and use the sugar and fat from the food you eat. Diabetes can occur when the pancreas produces very little or no insulin, or when the body does not respond appropriately to insulin. As yet, there is no cure. People with diabetes need to manage their disease to stay healthy.
Chinese medicine believes that the five internal organs of the human body are weak, overeating fat and sweet, and emotional disorders are the main causes of thirst. The affected viscera are mainly lung, stomach and kidney, especially kidney.

TCM treatment of diabetes is based on the principle of overall regulation and balance of Yin and Yang for dialectical treatment, which can be divided into the following three types:
1. Yin deficiency and dry heat (early diabetes): manifested as polydipsia and polydipsia, dry throat, dry tongue, eating too much but still hungry, red tongue, constipation, red tongue, less fluid, yellow moss, slippery pulse or number of strings. It can be treated by nourishing yin and clearing away heat.
